Brand strategy

Positioning, messaging and identity direction from Black Clover Media, a marketing agency in Bengaluru: what you sell, who it is for and why someone should choose you, written down plainly enough that every page, post and ad can repeat it. Usually the first thing we do, because every other service repeats whatever gets decided here.

What it is

Brand strategy here means three decisions written down: what you sell, who buys it, and the reason they choose you over the next option. Everything after that — the site, the ads, the posts — is those three decisions repeated in different places.

For most businesses this is not a logo exercise. It is naming the operational strengths your customers already judge you on, in words they would use themselves, and then removing everything else.

The positioning agreed here is what the website repeats, what search ranks you for, and what every ad pays to say. When it changes, everything downstream changes with it.

Who it suits

Suits businesses that have grown on word of mouth and now need to explain themselves to strangers, businesses whose team describes what they do three different ways, and anyone about to spend money on a website or a campaign.

What you get

  • Positioning: one page, plain languageDeliverable
  • Messaging written separately for each buyer typeDeliverable
  • Naming and identity direction: mark, colours, print useDeliverable
  • A written brief the rest of the work runs onDeliverable

What it costs to run

  • One-off project, three to five weeksQuoted per project
  • Identity design, if you need it built outQuoted per project

No ongoing cost. This is a fixed-scope project with a delivery date, and it is the only service we sell before anything else. We do not publish a fixed rate card, because the number depends on scope. You get it in writing, with the scope attached, before anything starts.

Common questions

Do I need brand strategy before a website?
If your team cannot say in one sentence what you sell and to whom, yes. Building a site first means paying to design the wrong argument, then paying again to change it. If that sentence already exists and everyone agrees on it, skip this and go straight to the website.
Is this just a logo?
No. A logo may come out of it, but the work is the positioning and the messaging. We would rather hand you three sharp paragraphs and no logo than a logo and no argument.
How long does it take?
Three to five weeks, most of which is us talking to your customers and your sales team rather than sitting in a studio.
What do you need from us?
Access to two or three customers for a short call, whoever sells for you, and any pricing or proposal documents you already send out. That is usually enough.
